Third CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS
Introduction
For a long time, network security has been known to be mainly about the encryption/decryption techniques.
In the past decade, network security has gradually but surely moved towards securing the network environment rather than just the stored
or transferred data. Increased interest on the intrusion detection together with prevention and response proves that protecting the data
either in the storage or during the transfer is necessary, but not sufficient, for the security of a network. It is very important to
secure network resources and to prevent attacks on the network. Correct and timely response is an important issue in this area of research
that may help us to protect networks against intrusion attempts.
Privacy of the users made use of the networks, especially the Internet, something to worry about. Many researchers have focused their
research on improving the privacy on the net. Nevertheless, this issue is still unsolved and data collection from the network users,
in particular Internet users, is still an unsolved problem.
Objective of the Book
This book aims to explore the latest practices and research works in the area of privacy, intrusion detection, and response.
The intention is to prepare a collection of articles presenting new and unpublished works in this area. The book intends to
provide a collection of novel ideas, theories, and solutions in the areas related to the aforementioned research area.
Target Audience
This book aims to satisfy the needs of researchers, academics, and practitioners working in the field of privacy, intrusion detection,
and response. Technical people, such as network security officers, administrators, and application developers, who may need in depth
knowledge of the concepts targeted in this book, may also need to read this book. Research institutes in the area of network security
and educational institutes with graduate level courses on network security or school of computer science/engineering of the universities
can use this book as a reference.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intrusion Detection, Prevention, and Response Systems (IDPRS): Any parts of IDPRS in either host-based or network-based for different types of networks (e.g., Wired, Ad-hoc) are considered.
- Honey pot Technology: Research works in the area of honey pots
- Alert Aggregation and Correlation: Alert aggregation techniques and different types of alert correlation.
- Security Operation Center (SOC): Different architectures for SOC, applicable components, and methods used in SOC.
- Privacy: Privacy on the net and Internet-related privacy issues.
- Network feature selection for intrusion detection
- Response to intrusion attempts
- Intrusion prevention
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before November 30, 2009, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the
mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2009 about the status
of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 31, 2010. All submitted chapters will
be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
Publisher
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the "Information Science Reference"
