The CSIRO ICT Centre is building a role for Australia as a global innovator by delivering leading-edge ICT solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250 researchers across Australia working on a wide range of ICT technologies and application areas. The ICT Centre hosts the Tasmanian ICT Centre, a multidisciplinary team of over 30 staff spanning the areas of near-real real time data streaming in wireless sensor networks.
The ICT Centre develops science, technology and architectures for finding, combining, integrating, managing, and delivering services and information for resource monitoring and management systems by using logical modeling to combine multiple data streams, sensor webs and other resources to create macro-instruments. This capability is currently being applied to a number of areas including terrestrial water resource management, sustainable multiple use of coastal marine environments and energy consumption and management.
We are seeking to appoint a senior research scientist of international standing as a Research Leader in semantic data management technologies and sensor information systems with a focus on the development of the information environment to facilitate the increase in situation awareness, understanding and prediction capability for distributed heterogeneous sensor networks, real-time assessment and service creation response to events.
The research area is multidisciplinary including interoperability, sensor fusion, signal processing and statistical modeling, understanding of complex interrelated events, and providing for information analysis to support both real-time and long-term scenario assessment and decision making in a variety of application domains and data uses. This research area also includes the development of an innovative data and information management and service infrastructure to provide sensor network data products to different existing models and user communities.
The role of a Science Leader is to provide leadership in developing and nurturing professional skills in the science area, as well as the pursuit of excellence in this field. You will be honest, ethical and a team player, meticulous in your science, and creative in your ideas. The successful applicant will have an established international research record in data streaming. The applicant will have a record of innovation and generation of new ideas, and a demonstrated ability to mentor staff in a range of semantic data management technologies, as well as supervision of post doctoral fellow and PhD students.
It is expected that the successful applicant will be active in the semantic data management research area with extensive publications record and a high profile in the international research community. A track record of student supervision and collaborations across universities, research institutions and industry should also be demonstrated.
As the Science Leader, you will define the research direction of the semantic data management technologies science area, direct research projects and associated priorities in the Tasmanian ICT Centre and the Sensor and Sensor Network Transformational Capability Platform across different ICT Laboratories. The Science Leader will also collaborate with the other five Research Laboratories within the Centre, namely Wireless Technologies, Networking Technologies, Information Engineering, Australian eHealth Research Centre as well as the Autonomous System Laboratory.
The successful applicant will be appointed to an indefinite position within the CSIRO ICT Centre and upon appointment, also to the role of Science Leader for a (renewable) period of 3 years.
