Call for Participation: Workshop on Self-Managing Database Systems
5th International Workshop on Self-Managing Database Systems
(SMDB 2010)
March 1, 2010, Long Beach, California, USA
In conjunction with the 26th IEEE International Conference on Data
Engineering (ICDE 2010) March 1-6, 2010
http://db.uwaterloo.ca/tcde-smdb/smdb10/
Database management systems are growing rapidly in scale and complexity, while
skilled administrators are becoming rarer and more expensive. Adding autonomic,
or self-managing, capabilities to these systems promises easier use and maintenance.
While considerable progress has been made in this direction, trends like cloud computing,
MapReduce, virtualization, and software-as-a-service pose new challenges. The SMDB workshop
brings together innovative researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas related to
autonomic database management systems.
Program Summary
* Keynote by Oliver Ratzesberger (Sr. Director Architecture & Operations, eBay)
* Panel: Databases, MapReduce, and the Cloud--Oh My! What's in it for the Administrator?
* 3 paper sessions
