Data Management for eScience

[Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this email. Feel free to distribute the following CFP among your colleagues.] Future Generation Computer Systems The International Journal of Grid Computing and eScience Special Issue on Data Management for eScience The Journal Future Generation Computer Systems invites authors to submit papers for the Special Issue on Data Management for eScience. This special issue follows the Data Grid for eScience (DaGreS) workshop on the same topic, but it is open also to contributions by teams that were not represented at the workshop. Background Data management addresses a lot of problems related to large data sets manipulation over wide computing networks, providing tools and services for exchanging, delivery, processing and managing huge amount of data. Data management is a key issue in several eScience contexts including climate change, high energy physics, astrophysics, bioinformatics, etc. Since eScience applications involve huge amount of data which can be heterogeneous and geographically spread in nature, data management plays a crucial role in the current and future eInfrastructures and middleware solutions. A lot of open issues concerning data management for eScience (heterogeneity, high autonomy and large-scale distribution of data resources, etc.) still need to be faced. Challenging requirements for data oriented architecture/infrastructure solutions in several eScience contexts include, among the others, autonomy, interoperability, scalability, fault-tolerance and security. Topics The aim of the special issue is to provide an archival view of the state-of-the-art of both practical and theoretical issues related to data management for eScience. We therefore encourage submissions in the following areas: - Data Virtualization - Digital Libraries - Ontology-based integration of data and services - Data Grid for eScience - Semantic distributed query processing - WSRF-based Data Grid services - Grid Database Access Management and Integration Services - Data security and privacy - Scientific Gateways - Data Grids and Metadata Management - Data warehousing and data mining - Workflow/Dataflow management in Grids - Data Clouds - Data-intensive Grid applications - Web services and P2P - Data Life Cycle in Products and Processes - Distributed Database Management - High performance Data Mining - Data Models for Production Systems and Services - P2P data integration Guest Editors: G. Aloisio - Euro Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC) & University of Salento, Lecce, Italy S. Fiore - Euro Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC) & University of Salento, Lecce, Italy Schedule: - Submission deadline: January 25 2010 Extended Deadline - Notification of acceptance: March 30 2010 - Camera ready version: May 31 2010 Instructions to the authors: We would like to invite you to upload the source files of your article for the special section of Future Generation Computer Systems DAGRES 2009. Papers previously considered for a conference should be resubmitted for the special section in updated and improved versions The files should be submitted to us through the journal's editorial handling system http://ees.elsevier.com/fgcs/ Please register at the site, if you have not yet used the system, select Author Log-in, and upload editable source files for manuscript (Word, LaTeX, ...) and figures, mentioning that the paper is part of the special section DAGRES 2009. Please choose the Article Type ''SS: DAGRES 2009". The system will then prepare a pdf for approval. When the "approval" button is clicked, the paper will be submitted. Regarding format: On the journal homepage www.elsevier.com/locate/fgcs there is a Guide for Authors providing instructions and requirements for papers. There is no journal template, and we prefer to have no elaborate lay-out as that will be removed anyway. We do require however the submission of author biographies and photographs. An elementary structure of title, author names, affiliations, abstract, text, references, figure captions, figures would be sufficient. The number of pages of the submitted paper should be related to the content of the paper: superfluous material is to be avoided. Usually uploading takes less than 10 minutes. If you encounter any problems in the use of the online system, please do not hesitate to contact authorsupport@elsevier.com Size of each contribution should be 6-10 pages.
