Cluster Computing for Web Science - researcher position available

The DERI Data Intensive Infrastructure unit http://di2.deri.ie ( http://sindice.com http://sig.ma ) invites applications for researcher (postdoc - junior research fellow) to work in the SFI funded WebStar project, part of the DERI, LION II CSET. Webstar is a cluster computer currently being built for large scale web data processing, e.g. using paradigms such as Map Reduce. The idea is to collect significant slices of web data and perform large scale scientific analisys, possibly covering a variety of topics and purposes (something one could describe as data driven "Web Science") We are currently looking for a scientifically and tecnically skilled advaced postdoc which would have freedom to plan and lead the development (technical, but most of all scientific) of the WebStar platform for large scale Web experiemnts. The work will include designing and running experiments, as well as interacting with external scientific partners. The candidate would be supported by the current team, which includes professional research engineers to cure the system administration and many aspects of the development. The position is available for an initial period of 24 months with possibility of extension. Essential skills * Independent, self managing style, great teamwork * Ph.D in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience with notable relevant publications.
