AMCIS 2010 Mini-Track: Data AND Information Quality In Decision Making

16th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) Track: Data and Information Quality Minitrack: Data AND Information Quality In Decision Making August 12-15, 2010, Lima, Peru http://www.amcis2010.org Models of decision making, mainly normative models of decision making, point to the critical role of information in this process. For instance, Herbert Simon’s classic model of decision making (intelligence, design, choice [Simon, 1977]) emphasizes the essential role that information has through its initial decision phase, intelligence, which consists of a scan of the environment that aims to identify new problems or opportunities. Evidently, information also has important role in the design of possible avenues of action. Hence, the design phase involves intelligence as well, e.g., of materials, techniques, and/or processes [Boland and Collopy, 2004]. Similarly, the choice of a preferred alternative involves intelligence of the current conditions that affect each alternative. This mini-track centers on the relationship between the quality of the information that is employed in the decision-making process on one hand, and, on the other hand, the product of the decision, other aspects of the decision process, the consequences of the decision, and/or its value. The ultimate goal of this research is to produce solutions that bring under control and mitigate the negative effects of poor information quality, i.e., improve decisions both subjectively and objectively. Papers in this mini-track will aim to: •Extend the existing understanding of the above relationships in a chosen setting •Propose a new artifact(s) (e.g., a concept, model, method, system implementation) that promises a new solution •Examine the value of a previously proposed artifact •Refine a previously proposed artifact We welcome original research papers regardless of decision domain, decision process, or research methodology. Since related problems have been studied in numerous problem domains and diverse scientific disciplines, we encourage authors to explore this rich literature and benefit from it. Journal Publication Extended versions of outstanding papers will be fast-tracked to ACM JDIQ (http://jdiq.acm.org/). Selected authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their paper to a special issue/section in International Journal of Data Mining, Modelling and Management (IJDMMM) (www.inderscience.com/ijdmmm) . Submission Process Full paper submissions must be made electronically through the AMCIS Manuscript Central submission system, by February 26th 2010. Papers should not exceed 5,000 words. Paper format may be found at: http://amcis2009.org/images/stories/amcis09/doc/amcis2009_paper_template.doc Important Dates - January 4, 2010: Paper submissions open - February 26, 2010: Deadline for paper submissions - April 12, 2010: Notification of acceptance of - April 26, 2010: Final copy due - August 12-15, 2010: AMCIS Conference Minitrack Chairs Irit Askira Gelman askira@cox.net Adir Even adireven@bgu.ac.il Ben-Gurion University Further Information AMCIS 2009 Conference Website: http://www.amcis2010.org/ Or contact Minitrack Chairs.
