Java Engineer with Project Management Tasks at FGCZ, Switzerland
The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is an interdisciplinary research
and training center of the University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich. With
B-Fabric (http://www.bfabric.org) an innovative open source infrastructure has
been developed for managing and integrating data from high throughput molecular
analysis systems and applications for their analysis produced at FGCZ. B-Fabric
is implemented based on open source technologies and productively used in the
life science research of the two institutions. We are seeking a Java
engineer to strengthen our existing development team. The position offers a
challenging opportunity at a key intersection of rapidly moving fields.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The position's responsibility includes the specification, implementation,
maintenance, and support of software solutions. The primary focus will be on
advancing our open source data and application integration framework B-Fabric.
The candidate will closely collaborate with bioinformatics experts and
scientists to achieve this goal in general and to couple external applications
(for analysis and visualization purposes) with B-Fabric in specific.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should have a degree in computer science or an equivalent
expertise with good programming skills in Java. Apart from the readiness for
independent and team-oriented work, we expect some basic knowledge and
experiences in database systems (SQL), middleware (Java EE, Hibernate), Web/XML
technologies (JSF, Richfaces), and Operating Systems (Linux, Unix, Windows).
Knowledge about open source products (PostgreSQL, Lucene, ActiveMQ, GlassFish
etc.) is of advantage. An ability to work independently is a prerequisite, as
is the ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff of
the center in a team-oriented manner. Advanced knowledge of English is
essential, as this is the working language of the center. Knowledge of German
is helpful but not essential.
TERMS
Full-time position, starting immediately or upon agreement. Working place is
Functional Genomics Center in Zurich, Switzerland.
