ICDE 2010 PhD Workshop: Call for Papers

NSF Travel fellowships available for US-based students CALL FOR PAPERS ICDE 2010 PhD Workshop In conjunction with ICDE 2010 March 2010, Long Beach, California, USA http://i.cs.hku.hk/~icde10ph/ AIMS AND SCOPE The ICDE 2010 Ph.D. Workshop will bring together Ph.D. students working on topics related to the ICDE Conference series. The goal is to provide a forum for Ph.D. students to present ongoing research in a collaborative environment and share ideas with other young researchers in an international atmosphere. Participants will discuss their research ideas and results, and receive constructive feedback from an audience consisting of their peers as well as more senior researchers in their respective research areas. It will be an excellent opportunity for developing links and person-to-person networks which will be beneficial to our field and will be rewarding to the Ph.D. students. Furthermore, the workshop will include researchers, with experience in supervising and examining Ph.D. students, to provide feedback and advice to the participants. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE, as an ICDE workshop, and will be indexed by DBLP and IEEE Xplore. We particularly encourage submissions from students who are at the last stages of their doctoral work, and who can therefore present a relatively complete story about their thesis, as well as students who are in the beginning stages of their work and thus have a significant future work component. The former category will have the opportunity to showcase theses to a wider audience in preparation for a job search, whereas the latter can obtain valuable feedback about their research plans. TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS FROM THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION Selected US-based students whose papers will be accepted at the PhD workshop will receive travel fellowships of $1,000 to attend the conference (sponsored by NSF grant IIS-0956600). Students selected for the fellowships will be notified by Dec. 20th, 2009. WORKSHOP FORMAT The Ph.D. Workshop will be a full-day workshop consisting of about 6 hours of presentations spread over 4-5 sessions. Every presenter at the Ph.D. workshop must register for the main conference (no other registration is needed). SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Only active Ph.D. students are eligible to submit, and topics are restricted to their doctoral work. Submissions must be single-author, and the name of the supervisor must be clearly marked ("supervised by ...") on the paper, under the author's name. Advisors may offer some help, but the submission should be primarily written by the Ph.D. student and must be presented by the Ph.D. student. Topics of interest include those listed in the call for the main conference. Each submission should include a clear formulation of the research problem, a brief discussion of how your work advances related work, proposed solution approach and preliminary results, outstanding future work and a discussion of the contribution of your work. All submissions should be PDF files in IEEE format, as specified by ICDE, and are limited to *4 pages*.
