[ECN] Animal-Human Communication CFP

CALL FOR PAPERS   Working Title: Communication Perspectives on Animal-Human Interactions   Chapter proposals are sought for an edited volume on animal-human communication. Unlike the wealth of scholarly material in wildlife conservation and ethology, this volume introduces both lay and academic readers to studies of animal-human communication grounded in communication theories and methodologies. This book challenges the anthropocentrism of current human communication paradigms and expands the boundaries of interpersonal, intercultural, rhetorical, and environmental communication. Critical, qualitative and empirical investigations of communication with, about, and between humans and other animals are especially welcome. The editor (Dr. Emily Plec, Western Oregon University) invites submissions from any aspect of communication scholarship, so long as there is sustained consideration of animal-human communication.      Tentative sections (subject to revision and expansion) include: Theorizing Animal-Human Communication Communication in Animal-Human Relationships Animal-Human Engagement in the Wild Cultivated Connections (ecotourism, zoos, mass media etc.)   Inquiries and submissions should be sent electronically (Word document preferred) to:  Emily Plec at plece@wou.edu   Deadline for submission of proposals (2-3 pages): January 1, 2010 Deadline for submission of completed chapters: June 30, 2010 Emily Plec Associate Professor Communication Studies Western Oregon University 345 N.
