CALL FOR PAPERS
Working Title: Communication
Perspectives on Animal-Human Interactions
Chapter proposals are sought
for an edited volume on animal-human communication. Unlike the wealth of scholarly
material in wildlife conservation and ethology, this volume introduces both lay
and academic readers to studies of animal-human communication grounded in
communication theories and methodologies. This book challenges the
anthropocentrism of current human communication paradigms and expands the
boundaries of interpersonal, intercultural, rhetorical, and environmental
communication. Critical, qualitative and empirical investigations of communication with, about, and between humans and other animals are especially welcome. The editor (Dr. Emily Plec, Western Oregon
University) invites
submissions from any aspect of communication scholarship, so long as there is sustained
consideration of animal-human communication.
Tentative sections (subject
to revision and expansion) include:
Theorizing Animal-Human
Communication
Communication in Animal-Human
Relationships
Animal-Human Engagement in
the Wild
Cultivated Connections
(ecotourism, zoos, mass media etc.)
Inquiries and submissions
should be sent electronically (Word
document preferred) to: Emily Plec at plece@wou.edu
Deadline for submission of proposals (2-3 pages): January 1, 2010
Deadline for submission of
completed chapters: June 30, 2010
