Tenure track position in Software Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia invites applications for one tenure track position, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, in the following area: * Software Engineering (particularly requirements specification & management; software evolution & maintenance; software architecture; software project management; testing & static verification; lightweight formal methods; security; safety & reliability; human-computer interaction). Applicants who show outstanding interdisciplinary capability relevant to the above specialties are encouraged to apply. In any case, applicants must have either demonstrated or possess a clear potential and interest in achieving excellence in research and teaching. Successful applicants will preferably have relevant industrial experience and be active in enhancing educational and research links within the community. All faculty members are expected to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and to supervise graduate students. A Ph.D., or equivalent, in an appropriate area is required. Applicants should either have, or be eligible to register with, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Registration is required within four years of appointment. These appointments are expected to commence 1 July 2010. The Department offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. A number of new initiatives – from new Professorships and Chairs with significant support from local companies to new project-based undergraduate teaching – have created an exciting work environment. The Department has also recently developed a strategic plan. Curriculum reform is in progress, and specific initiatives are being launched to grow student, faculty, and staff engagement and excellence in the Department’s education and research activities. The Department is strong in interdisciplinary research and plans to continue to build this strength even further. The Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems, partly funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), provides state-of-the-art laboratories for interdisciplinary research in a number of areas. Significant start-up funding to new faculty may be offered through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Canada Research Chairs Program and other sources. The Department is currently constituted by approximately 50 faculty members, as well as several technical, research and administrative staff.
