Postdoctoral Position at the University of Lugano

The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera Italiana USI) has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher who would like to join a research project in the areas of service-based applications, SLA protection, virtualization, and cloud computing. The activity will be carried on in the research group lead by Mauro Pezzè, and will be part of the EU FP7 project RESERVOIR "Resources and Services Virtualization without Barriers". RESERVOIR is a European Union FP7 funded project that will enable massive scale deployment and management of complex IT services across different administrative domains, IT platforms and geographies. This is an excellent opportunity for creative candidates seeking experience working with a team of other researchers in a world-class research consortium. Candidates must have a strong desire and proven ability to invent, build, and publish their work. We seek an excellent researcher with a strong publication record in top international journals and conferences, and expertise in both theoretical and systems aspects of one or more of the above areas. The successful applicant is expected to collaborate with the academic and industrial partners of RESERVOIR (e.g., IBM, SAP, SUN, TID, UCL, UCM) and the colleagues in the group, to undertake teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to assist the supervision of PhD students. Candidates will be encouraged to conduct relevant exploratory research and disseminate results. The position would begin as soon as possible, but no later than February 2010. The Faculty of Informatics, founded in October 2004, provides an exciting environment in which to develop a research career. In a matter of very few years, it has become one of Switzerland's major poles for teaching and research, ranking third after the two Federal Institutes of Technology, Zurich and Lausanne, and steadily growing in terms of members and institutes. The initial appointment is for one year full-time, renewable for one more year. The gross salary conforms to the postdoc position for Swiss Universities (about 75.000 CHF per year).
