Postdoctoral Researcher in Large Scale Web Data Processing

The DERI Data Intensive Infrastructure unit http://di2.deri.ie ( http://sindice.com http://sig.ma ) invites applications for postdoctoral researcher to work in the SFI funded WebStar project, part of the DERI, LION II CSET. Webstar is a cluster computer currently being built for large scale web data processing, e.g. using paradigms such as Map Reduce. The candidate will be in charge of the infrastructure and will have the opportunity to lead its technical and scientific development. The team includes 1 professional system administrator, a part time developer, and possibly a Ph.D student (pending requested funding). The work will include designing experiments and infrastructures as well as interacting with external scientific partners. The position is available for an initial period of 18 months with possibility of extension. Essential skills * Independent, self managing style, great teamwork * Ph.D in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience with notable relevant publications. Topics of interest include include Information Retrieval, Search Engines, Databases, Cluster or Grid computing, distributed algorithms * Great technical capabilities, ability to confidently work in Linux environments, experienced developer DERI is a leading research institute in Semantic Technologies that offers a stimulating, dynamic and multi-cultural research environment, excellent ties to research-groups worldwide, close collaboration with industrial partners and up-to-date infrastructure and resources.
