Information Mining and Retrieval in Design

Sorry if you receive multiple copies! Advanced Engineering Informatics (ADVEI), Elsevier A Special Issue on Information Mining and Retrieval in Design http://www.acad.polyu.edu.hk/~mfyliu/ADVEI.pdf Overview and Scope Largely due to the fast growing services offered by WWW, Semantic Web and Web 2.0, the latest advances of information technology and the intrinsic complexity of information processing in design, an undoubted information and knowledge intensive activity, we have witnessed a pressing demand from the design professionals who are eager to enhance their capability in design information processing and management by harnessing some latest techniques, notably data\text\multimedia mining, semantic technology and ontology engineering, knowledge management, etc. A flow of interesting research studies have emerged, for example using data mining in the search and retrieval of CAD elements, semantic annotation for product lifecycle management, new product family variants derivation based on multi-facet information search, using text mining for the discovery of design rationale from patent documents, Web mining for the automatic identification of mass opinions and product survey, and so on! . How to effectively and efficiently manage design information and knowledge across the whole product life cycle in a global context (e.g. outsourcing) at both personal and enterprise wide levels challenges everyone in the community. Hence, this Special Issue calls for the latest advances, challenges, innovations, state-of-the-art research, technology development and applications of information mining and retrieval in design. For this special issue, interesting topics include, but are not limited to: * Data\Text\Web\Multimedia mining * Information retrieval and search engine dedicated to design information, e.g. CAD elements * Ontology engineering and ontology based information mining and retrieval in design * Social network mining in design * Data acquisition and preprocessing in design * Semantic web, Web 2.0 and their application in design * Design information and knowledge management portal * Knowledge management in ODM * Privacy and legal issues * Case studies The target audience of this special issue includes academics, researchers, engineers, professionals working on the relevant topics in design profession, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, information system, and the graduate students who wish to learn and spot potential research opportunities. Manuscript Submission All papers must be original and are not published, submitted and/or currently under review elsewhere. Each submission will be peer reviewed according to the ADVEI’s standard and requirement. Authors are first invited to forward a brief intent which clearly addresses the main content, issues and potential contributions of your final manuscript to the Guest Editors before 1st September, 2009. Papers selected from the Special Session CIE-18 of ASME IDETC’09 should be extended with sufficiently incremental novelty and details. For the manuscripts, authors must follow the ADVEI’s format requirement, in preparing their full papers. More details can be found at Elsevier’s ADVEI Instructions for Authors. Please direct all your correspondence and intent to the Guest Editors through email. Please NOTE: all papers should be submitted through the Elsevier’s online system at http://ees.elsevier.com/advei/.
