The Computer Science Department at Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne (www.cs.ipfw.edu) has an opening for a post-doc in the area of Information Retrieval (subject to approval). The position is sponsored by a company that conducts research in the area of Semantic Web and Information Retrieval. General research areas include:
- similarity distance between semantic concepts,
- diversity metrics for semantic concepts,
- extracting semantic information from generally available sources, such as WordNet and Wikipedia, and
- extracting information from knowledgebases.
The successful candidate should be a recent Computer Science Ph.D. graduate in the area of Information Retrieval. Familiarity with ongoing developments in Semantic Web research and strong software engineering background are both an asset. The chosen candidate will be involved in designing algorithms, implementing and testing prototypes, publishing papers, and filing patent applications. They will report to Dr. Lubomir Stanchev from the department. The salary is $45,000 per year plus benefits. The duration of the position is initially one year and can be extended subject to satisfactory performance and available funding. The starting date is January 1st, 2010.
